Family Testimony: "Moving her to Teresa House was almost like she wasn’t sick anymore."

Sally Lowery, was a Teresa House resident in 2010. Her daughter, Pam, and her granddaughter, Courtney, have been faithful donors ever since. When asked what inspires them to keep on giving year after year, Pam shared, “Those two and half weeks at Teresa House were the happiest of her life. We tried to do it all at home but it got to be too much. We couldn’t be there 24/7. Moving her to Teresa House was almost like she wasn’t sick anymore. People would sit with her, have dinner over long conversations, and play cards. Her favorite thing was to bake and people begged for her cookies. The night before she passed, she taught a (baking) class to students and staff on how to make her cookies. Teresa House allowed her to do her most favorite things and she was so happy! She told me ‘They loved my cookies!’ I can’t say enough how happy you made her. It was a blessing. We appreciate what you do and continue to do. We are forever grateful. We hope Teresa House can do this forever for people.”

Dear Friend of Teresa House,

We at Teresa House have upheld our legacy as the only two-bed comfort care home in Livingston County. Since 1993, we have had the honor of caring for 513 terminally ill individuals across nine counties. Our core values of love, dignity, and support are reflected in the compassionate care provided by our staff and volunteers, who greet each resident with the same warmth and affection they would offer their own family. Our mission remains clear: to provide a dignified end-of-life experience in a loving home environment.

The Need is Greater Than Ever

In the first nine months of this year, we received 48 referrals from 15 hospitals and hospice agencies, alongside numerous inquiries from family members seeking to place their loved ones in our care. The cost of running Teresa House has now exceeded $920 per day and is expected to rise. This figure includes essential expenses such as supplies, daily necessities, home maintenance, staffing, and the various insurance policies required to maintain our 501(c)(3) status in New York State. Every dollar you contribute directly supports the people and resources that make our mission possible.

How You Can Make a Difference

We invite you to consider supporting Teresa House through the following ways:

  • IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs): If you are aged 70½ or older, you can make a QCD from your IRA—up to $105,000 for 2024—directly to Teresa House. This reduces your required minimum distribution and avoids federal income tax. Simply contact your Financial Advisor or IRA Custodian to arrange this transfer. It’s a tax-efficient way to support our mission.
  • In-Kind Stock Gifts: Donate appreciated stock to Teresa House to avoid capital gains taxes. The value of the stock may be tax-deductible, making this an advantageous option for those with significant gains. Consult with your Financial Advisor or Custodian to make this donation.
  • Spread the Word: Share our mission with friends and family to help us reach more supporters.
