Family Testimony: "This place is like a little taste of heaven."

“Each and every one of you has been so kind and wonderful. I can’t thank you enough for making me feel welcome and comfortable here during one of the hardest times of my life. This place is like a little taste of heaven. May you continue to be blessed in all that you do.” (Julia Beardsley)

Dear Friend of Teresa House,

At Teresa House, you will find neighbors caring for neighbors, students engaging with elders, and strangers making new friends. Since opening our doors in 1993, we have welcomed 530 terminally ill residents from across nine counties, ensuring that every resident experiences a dignified dying experience in a home where compassion lights the hearth. Volunteers and staff embody our values of love, dignity, and support, creating an atmosphere of comfort that embraces every resident and family as they cross our threshold.

Teresa House provides a safe and loving space for those who don’t have the social or financial resources to stay in their home and do not wish to die in a nursing home or hospital. As the only two-bed comfort care home in Livingston County, every dollar you donate directly impacts our ability to provide essential end-of-life care. Residents receive our care free of charge, releasing families from the responsibilities of caregiving and allowing them to focus on the moments that matter most.

The Need is Greater Than Ever

This year alone we have served 14 residents with an average length of stay of 28 days. We have received 78 referrals from 22 hospitals and hospice agencies, alongside numerous inquiries from family members seeking to place their loved ones in our care.

The cost of running Teresa House has now exceeded $957 per day and is expected to rise. This figure includes essential expenses such as supplies, daily necessities, home maintenance, staffing, and the various insurance policies required to maintain our 501(c)(3) status in New York State. Your generosity ensures this compassionate care remains available to our neighbors in need. How You Can Make a Difference

More Testimonies:

  • “We are so grateful for your kindness and expertise in the care of Ron in his hospice stay. Your attentiveness and compassion allowed Ron’s final days to be peaceful and pain free.” (Laura Roland)
  • "Thank you for the extraordinary care that you gave to our sister/aunt during her brief stay with you. This was her first time away from the support of her group home and all of you showered her (and us) with such love, comfort, compassion and kindness. We remain grateful to everyone.” (Karen & Molly Reimringer)
  • Sally Lowery, was a Teresa House resident in 2010. Her daughter, Pam, and her granddaughter, Courtney, have been faithful donors ever since. When asked what inspires them to keep on giving year after year, Pam shared, “Those two and half weeks at Teresa House were the happiest of her life. We tried to do it all at home but it got to be too much. We couldn’t be there 24/7. Moving her to Teresa House was almost like she wasn’t sick anymore. People would sit with her, have dinner over long conversations, and play cards. Her favorite thing was to bake and people begged for her cookies. The night before she passed, she taught a (baking) class to students and staff on how to make her cookies. Teresa House allowed her to do her most favorite things and she was so happy! She told me ‘They loved my cookies!’ I can’t say enough how happy you made her. It was a blessing. We appreciate what you do and continue to do. We are forever grateful. We hope Teresa House can do this forever for people.”

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
